XP 64bit PDF
OS

Posted: Mar 26, 2006

It's been almost a year since I played with the 64 bit XP.
At the time they (NVIDIA) did not have the 64 bit video drivers out at the time of testing.
Everything ran great and fast but battlefield 1942 and other 3D games.

So at that point I went back to XP and have not tested since then.
I am now waiting on Vista and not even giving 64 bit XP a second thought.

Well this is going to change now...
I just switched CPU's and went with a AMD 4400+ dual core. This would be great for seeing how the 64 bit OS runs with the new drivers.
I'll post more on this and if I do go back to XP pro I will post the reasons

Update:

Now having a dual core AMD and XP x64 OS Battlefield 1942 has two things causing lock ups and lagging video.

Dual core fix (locking up in game)

Hold the windows key and press pause/break (System Properties)
Click on the Advanced tab
Click on the Settings button for Startup and Recovery
Click on the Edit button

add in /usepmtimer after /fastdetect

save close and reboot

The video lag was a strange one, you would think it was the drivers not working well on XP x64.

Well that turned out not to be the case.
first off go into power options properties
change power schemes from Home/Office desk to
Minimal Power Management

Then in game change sound to Hardware

So far this has fixed this one problem with BF1942 running DCX mods

Little problems here and there have helped me make up my mind to go back to XP Pro (32 bit) before I have installed more on XP x64.

The video just does not run smooth in BF1942 like it does on XP (32 bit). That is one of the biggest things I have ran across (video).

Running XP Pro (32 bit) on a AMD dual-core seems fast also. Plus I'd rather have a OS platform that will use the software I have like Diskeeper.
I would have to get diskeeper 10 pro just to run on XP x64. I already paid for version 9.
