Next on the bench to go with the M8 Greyhound will the the scout car.
I'm really impressed with new scout car, a lot more detail and thought in the design. Really hope they overhaul their half track kits with the new tooling.
Upper section is like the chassis, a smooth build. Soon it will be time for primer but first I'll need to get all the small parts in place and the tools prepped and the two part windshield masked off.
On this build I'm thinking about XF-62 OD with Mission Models lighter OD over top areas either airbrushed or dry brushed. Also thinking about ordering some stowage but we will see.
@ronlooks like clean and easy build with no complications. I agree it would be nice to see them (Tamiya) revamp their halftrack kits. I fondly remember building their M3A1 kit, back in the day. It went together very nicely.
I understand the AFV club has the M16 Half Track bow and got some decent reviews.
Yes it is tempting! I had it in my cart at Sprue Brothers, but will hold off, but on the the other hand, I got my package from BNA Hobby World today. A nicelooking Bronco Ram II tank was in its contents. 😀As well as my Tamiya 2 part Epoxy putty, and Mini Art 1/35th Tool Set.
still debating on adding either a Jeep or cargo truck with the scout car and M8 armored car
Tamiya still has push pin marks all over the place, but on this kit they are not deep and very easy to scrape them off with a sharp chisel.
How about the new Takom Jeep?
I have a Tamiya Jeep and cargo truck with the 50 cal mount kit and the Takom Jeep is on the list to get one day.
Moving back to the scout car and getting all the small parts ready for primer I ran across push pin marks on all the back seats. Now all gone
All parts now have been primed and light shading with Vallejo 71.033 Yellow Ochre, then Tamiya XF-62 Olive Drab for body color. For the straps, seats and canvas bag at the back will be Mission Models Khaki Drab MMP-023.
Now to move onto finishing all the seats and dash along with the tools.... thoughts on it so far?
Nice camo pattern! What paints did you use? Looks like it went down very nicely, without a hitch. Did you free hand or use masking putty?
@harold-adams I used Mig masking putty and sprayed AK724 Dry Light Mud
This round was to highlight, depth and metal work.
The under carriage paint used Mission Models MMP-025 OD (dry brushed = DB) Vallejo #044 light gray green DB and Vallejo Metal color Steel 77.712 (applied in small amounts and then with a brush dipped in water, go over the metal areas to lessen the steel appearance.
Upper section paint used Mission Models MMP-025 OD, this was applied with AB and then followed up by DB to high the high points inside and out
Wheels paint used Mission Models MMP-025 OD (DB), AK Rubber Tires AK720 this was applied with AB and last was Vallejo Metal color Steel 77.712 applied DB
Tools, dash, gun rails and exhaust paint used Mission Models MMP-025 OD (DB) and Vallejo Metal color Steel 77.712 brush painted (more work to be done)
